It is commonly used for through-hole components, which have leads (legs) that go through holes in the PCB. This technique allows for fast, reliable, and automated soldering.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"389\" data-end=\"430\">&#x1f30a; Why Is It Called &#8220;Wave&#8221; Soldering?<\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"432\" data-end=\"648\">The process gets its name from the wave of molten solder that is created inside the machine. As the PCB passes over this solder wave, the component leads come into contact with it and are instantly soldered in place.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"650\" data-end=\"675\">&#x1f6e0;&#xfe0f; How Does It Work?<\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"677\" data-end=\"737\">The wave soldering process usually involves four main steps:<\/p>\n<ol data-start=\"739\" data-end=\"1233\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"739\" data-end=\"872\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"742\" data-end=\"872\"><strong data-start=\"742\" data-end=\"753\">Fluxing<\/strong><br data-start=\"753\" data-end=\"756\" \/>A layer of flux is applied to the bottom of the PCB. Flux helps remove oxidation and improves the flow of solder.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"874\" data-end=\"974\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"877\" data-end=\"974\"><strong data-start=\"877\" data-end=\"891\">Preheating<\/strong><br data-start=\"891\" data-end=\"894\" \/>The board is gently heated to prevent thermal shock and to activate the flux.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"976\" data-end=\"1125\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"979\" data-end=\"1125\"><strong data-start=\"979\" data-end=\"992\">Soldering<\/strong><br data-start=\"992\" data-end=\"995\" \/>The PCB moves over a wave of molten solder.
